A symbol of British regal strength and authority, renowned and revered around the globe, has been beautifully re-envisioned on a new release from The Royal Mint, the 2023 Royal Arms 1oz Silver Coin. Struck during the coronation year of King Charles III, this stunning coin combines a wealth of historical tradition with cutting-edge coin minting techniques.
The Royal Mint Commemorates King Charles III’s Coronation with a Stunning Silver Coin
The 2023 Royal Arms 1oz Silver Coin is more than just a coin. It’s a medium that echoes the richness of British history, its monarchy, and the strength of its authority. This exclusive coin features a stunning reinterpretation of The Royal Arms by the esteemed heraldic artist, Timothy Noad, a design which has become a cornerstone of the Royal Arms bullion coin range since its inception in 2018.
The Royal Arms, a symbol that has, for centuries, signified royalty, strength and authority in Britain, once again graces the reverse of this coin. It has seen service on battle shields, signified authority on official British documents, and continues to represent the sovereign majesty of the King and the United Kingdom. The Arms include symbolic representations of the nations that comprise the United Kingdom: a leek for Wales, a thistle for Scotland, a shamrock for Ireland, and a Tudor rose for England.
Noad’s skilful rendition of the Royal Arms showcases a shield divided into quarters, each representing England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. The shield is supported by a lion and a unicorn, symbols of courage and purity, while a crown, the ultimate symbol of monarchy, sits above it. Adorning the shield is a ribbon featuring the text “Dieu et mon droit” (God and my right) and “Honi soit qui mal y pense” (Shame on him who thinks evil of it), which are the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter.
On the obverse of the coin, for the first time in the series, we see an official coinage portrait of His Majesty, King Charles III. Created by Martin Jennings, this portrait marks a new era of British monarchy and connects the past with the present.

With a diameter of 38.61mm, the coin features a radial-lined background texture which not only enhances its beauty but also serves as an added layer of security against counterfeiting.
Further adding to its exclusivity, The Royal Mint has announced that the production of the 2023 Silver Charles III Royal Arms 1oz Silver Coin will be capped at 100,000 coins.
