The Half-Eagle weighs .2419 of a troy ounce or 8.36 grams, with 7.53 grams of that being fine gold. It was the longest running series of American Eagle coins.

This 5 dollar gold coin represents an important era in American numismatic history, reflecting the nation's growth and economic development during the late 19th century. This coin boasts .900 purity, which was in line with the majority of circulated European currencies at the time and the Latin Monetary Union. 

The American Half-Eagle has a face value of $5 and features an eagle on the reverse, while the obverse displays a portrait of Lady Liberty, accompanied by the coin’s date and 13 stars encircling her head.

These stars, introduced by U.S. Mint Director Elias Boudinot, represent the original 13 East Coast colonies that declared independence from Great Britain before the formation of the United States. This coin has been designed by Christian Gobrecht, the third Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
